Security intelligence firm Recorded Future snaps up SecurityTrails

Recorded Future, the largest global provider of intelligence for enterprise security, has acquired attack surface monitoring provider SecurityTrails for an undisclosed fee.

According to Recorded Future, with the addition of Security Trails’ data, the former will be able to provide the foremost intelligence solution for unique threat landscape visibility, including insight into an organisation’s attack surface and shadow infrastructure.

SecurityTrails’ technology currently collects hundreds of different data points at an internet-wide scale, correlating and normalising to get a near real-time snapshot as well as a historical view of all assets on the internet at any given time.

Recorded Future mentioned the resulting intelligence enables organisations to manage both critical assets and shadow infrastructure for a complete understanding of their attack surface.

Recorded Future added that with the acquisition, it will be launching its Attack Surface Intelligence Module within the Recorded Future Intelligence Platform. In addition, existing clients of the company will also continue to gain insight from SecurityTrails data in other existing intelligence modules.

Recorded Future CEO and co-founder Christopher Ahlberg said, “It has been said, ‘If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.’ By combining Recorded Future’s unsurpassed Intelligence Platform with SecurityTrails’ unrivaled view into an organization’s attack surface, we make life miserable for the adversary.”

SecurityTrails CEO and co-founder Chris Ueland added, “Recorded Future has been a long-standing partner of SecurityTrails and our intelligence collection capabilities and inventories naturally complement each other in terms of providing risk landscape visibility. We’re thrilled at this evolution in our relationship and the tremendous value that organizations can realize for proactive, actionable defences.”

Back in 2020, Recorded Future signed a partnership deal with fellow cybersecurity firm Bandura Cyber. The deal saw the integration of Recorded Future’s security intelligence with the Bandura Cyber Threat Intelligence Firewall platform.
