Blackwell Security secures $13m for cybersecurity enhancements

Blackwell Security, a provider of specialized cybersecurity solutions tailored for the healthcare sector, announced today a significant boost to their operations with a new $13m funding round.

The investment was co-led by General Catalyst and Rally Ventures, marking a substantial commitment to enhancing healthcare cybersecurity.

This $13m investment will be instrumental in expanding Blackwell Security’s Managed Healthcare Extended Detection and Response (MHXDR) offering. This solution is specifically designed to meet the unique demands of securing patient data and ensuring the safety of patient care within healthcare companies. The funding aims to enhance the company’s capabilities across the U.S. market, further cementing its position as a leader in the cybersecurity landscape.

Blackwell Security is actively collaborating with design partners, including health systems and General Catalyst’s Health Assurance Network. These partnerships aim to refine and advance healthcare threat detection and response processes, thereby improving the cybersecurity infrastructure across the healthcare industry.

Blackwell Security also heralds a new era in leadership with the appointment of Geyer Jones as its first Chief Executive Officer. Jones, known for his extensive experience in scaling cybersecurity operations, will lead the company through its next phase of growth, focusing on the continued innovation and enhancement of healthcare cybersecurity solutions.

General Catalyst Advisor Stephen K. Klasko, M.D., M.B.A., emphasized the importance of robust cybersecurity measures, stating, “As health system CEOs and physician practice leaders, the past few years have underscored the vital importance of preparation for unforeseen events as a cornerstone for survival and success.

“Anticipating potential challenges is pivotal; what may seem unintended can often be predicted. Cybersecurity and data trust emerge as the next looming ‘pandemic,’ and as a healthcare leader, I perceive Blackwell Security’s approach to safeguarding healthcare organizations as akin to providing the essential ‘PPE’ in readiness for the inevitable threats to system security.”
