Twitter hires new CISO after bitcoin hack

Twitter suffered an embarrassing hack attack in July that saw scammers compromise several high-profile accounts in a cryptocurrency scheme. Now the social media network has hired a new chief information security officer.

Rinki Sethi is a cybersecurity veteran who has already clocked up time working for data management company Rubrik, IBM, Palo Alto Networks and Intuit, according to TechCrunch.

The role had been left vacant since December 2019 when the former CISO Mike Convertino left Twitter.

The breach in July saw the accounts owned by celebrities such as Elon Musk, Kim Kardashian, Barack Obama and Jeff Bezos be compromised.

The hackers accessed the accounts and used them to plug a big bitcoin scam.

The attack also left several cryptocurrency companies worried that the hack would only serve to further damage the reputation of bitcoin.

Since the breach, several suspects have been arrested and investigated by the authorities, one as young as 16.
