With the arrival of the GDPR just weeks away, Hortonworks has launched a new service to allow enterprise to find, identify, secure and connect data.
The provider of global data management solutions has launched Hortonworks Data Steward Studio (DSS) to give enterprises ‘consistent security and governance’ for data assets across big data repositories. DSS aims to allow businesses to derive better insights from more of the data living in all of their data lakes, whether they are located in on-premises data centers or in the cloud.
It provides information stewards, data scientists, business analysts and data engineers with robust capabilities to find, curate, collaborate, secure and report on data and its context through an intuitive user experience. Customers get a comprehensive view of their data across data lakes that aggregates critical data assets, reducing the time it takes to understand key data aspects while reducing risk.
Next month marks the arrival of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), meaning businesses processing data will be subject to greater regulatory requirements and individuals will have stronger rights over their data.
DSS helps data professionals comply with GDP by providing analyse data lineage and impact. The service also gives customers the ability to organise and curate data globally; discover, catalog and search personal or sensitive data; simplify management and administration; and secure data and metadata.
“Uncovering insights from diverse data types across multiple data lakes requires substantial amounts of effort to establish lineage, improve quality and eliminate redundancies across data assets,” said Scott Gnau, chief technology officer at Hortonworks.
“Given the speed at which global business runs today, our enterprise customers need a faster and easier way to understand, connect, secure and govern data types consistently across enterprise data lakes. DSS will uniquely allow customers to achieve confidence in their data in less time and therefore create more opportunity for data scientists to analyze and extract the true value of their data.”
Hortonworks provides its solutions to a range of industries including financial services, oil & gas, insurance, advertising, retail, telecommunications, and healthcare, among others.
Banks and capital markets use Hortonworks Data platform and Hortonworks DataFlow to process huge amounts of data from traditional and non-traditional sources. It enables compliance teams to analyse both data-in-motion and data-at-rest to detect suspicious activity in real-time.
