A survey by Entrust has found that while hybrid working is popular with employees and leaders alike, the security concerns around the model are high with business leaders.
Entrust surveyed 1,500 business leaders and 1,500 general employees from over 10 countries worldwide. It was discovered that around 80% of firms are using hybrid work models or operating remotely.
According to Cyber News, most employees were found to favour a hybrid working model while business leaders worried about home internet security and sensitive company data leakage.
The survey found 91% of employees were in favour of a hybrid working environment. However, some of the employee respondents said they worried about online issues such as home internet security, cyber-attacks and sensitive information leakage.
Up to 89% of business leaders said they felt confident that their company’s data was secure when people worked outside the office – with the firm’s using security measures including VPNs and multi-factor authentication.
The report found that 51% of leaders had rolled out one-time password technology, 40% had utilised biometric authentication and 36% were using mobile identity verification. This, the leaders remarked, came from the desire to stay ahead of hackers and protect their internal data.
Entrust detailed that business leaders claimed that they have offered additional data security training to address the risks and threats posed by a remote or hybrid work environment. The company suggested that security team should consider updating their cyber-risk register to properly account for the new threat landscape.
In addition, the report found that while 81% of leaders said their company had offered employees training on data security, 86% said it was offered as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic – indicating a trend towards bolstered data security.
Entrust said, “If organisations are going to use hybrid work models successfully over the long term, then they will need to further invest in their security strategy.”
A study by Netwrix last year had found that 85% of CISOs had claimed to have sacrificed cybersecurity to quickly enable remote working.
