French IT monitoring company targeted by hackers and put potentially hundreds of businesses at risk

French IT company Centreon has been targeted in a three-year long hack attack where bad actors used the venture to break into its clients’ organisations, a French cyber watchdog has warned.

Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information (ANSSI) did not identify who they suspected of the hack attack, but said its modus operandi had similarities with the Russian cyberespionage group Sandworm, Reuters reported.

Reuters highlighted the similarities between this attack and the one American  SolarWinds experienced recently where hackers exploited a bug in the company’s software to gain access to its clients’ networks.

While ANSSI did not divulge how many systems had been compromised in the hack, Reuters pointed out that Centreon’s website stated that it had more than 600 enterprise clients around the world.
