Deloitte bolsters cybersecurity team with Europol exec

Deloitte has appointed Rob Wainwright, executive director of Europol, as a senior partner in its European cybersecurity practice.

Deloitte has bolstered its European cybersecurity practice by hiring Rob Wainwright, executive director of Europol. In the role, Wainwright will help lead and grow the team and business with clients, and will also be engaged in areas of related risk, such as financial crime and fraud.

He previously spent nine years at Europol, the European Union (EU) law enforcement agency, which connects over 1,000 law enforcement agencies and supports almost 50,000 cross-border investigations each year against transnational threats from crime and terrorism.

Wainwright has had a 25-year career in intelligence, policing, government, EU and international affairs, including at the Serious Organised Crime Agency, National Criminal Intelligence Service and the British Security Service.

The new hire is part of the continued growth of Deloitte’s cyber security practice, including employing an additional 500 people across Europe.

David Sproul, chief executive of Deloitte North West Europe, says: “Rob’s hire is part of the continued growth of Deloitte’s cybersecurity practice across Europe, which continues to expand to meet client demand. This includes actively hiring around 500 people by the end of the year. Cyber-crime is a borderless threat to all businesses regardless of their size, industry or location, and it must be at the forefront of all executive’s minds. Rob is in a fantastic position to help lead these boardroom conversations.”

Wainwright join the firm in June 2018 and whilst he will continue to be based in the Netherlands, he will work with clients across Europe.

Earlier this year, Deloitte formed a strategic partnership with AML Accelerate to reduce the risk of financial crime.

To help reduce the complexity and costs associated with complying with AML/CFT regulations, the firm said it will use the AML Accelerate platform for on-demand AML advisory services.
