Cybersecurity startup clean.io nets $5m in its Series A round

clean.io, which protects enterprises from the execution of malicious and untrusted JavaScript, has bagged $5m in its Series A round.

Tribeca Venture Partners led the round, with contributions also coming from Real Ventures, Inner Loop Capital and Grit Capital Partners.

The capital injection will enable clean.io to continue its growth and expand its product line.

Founded in 2017, clean.io helps to protect the integrity  of enterprises’ online experiences from the harmful impacts of malicious and untrusted JavaScript. Its technology leverages behavioural analysis to protect user sessions from bad actors looking to use malicious payloads.

clean.io CEO Matt Gillis said, “Many of the biggest sites and apps on the internet count on clean.io to protect their users and their monetization.

“This funding will help us continue to fuel the amazing growth we’ve experienced and allows us to make investments that will enable us to deliver an even larger positive benefit to consumers and enterprises who face material unmitigated risks from untrusted JavaScript.”

With the close of the round, clean.io has raised a total of $7.5m in equity.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought cybersecurity to the forefront of the minds. A report from Deloitte, claims that on average 10.9% of IT budgets is being put towards cybersecurity, up from 10.1% the previous year. This roughly equates to around 0.48% of a company’s revenue, again up from 0.34% in 2019.
