Barclays partners with Cyber Security Challenge UK to find new talent

Barclays has partnered with Government-backed Cyber Security Challenge UK to help attract cyber talent.

The agreement sees Barclays host the next face-to-face competition of the event, which will take place on Saturday 7th October at Radbroke Hall in Cheshire. The aim of the challenge is to identify individuals that could potentially have a career in cybersecurity.

Applications are available to UK residents that are currently not working in cybersecurity. To receive an invite to the event, an applicant must complete two cybersecurity games which test their coding and problem-solving skills ‘against the best in the industry’. Entrants must finish the games by 5pm on Friday 15th September.

The Cyber Security Challenge aims to put applicants through a series of tests simulating real-life cybersecurity scenarios and challenges which test technical, business and soft skills. The competition is open to anyone over the age of 15, with no need of a formal qualification.

Barclays Group chief security officer Troels Oerting said, “The growth of AI and connected devices mean cyber threats are growing exponentially, which makes cyber security one of the fastest growing areas of the technology sector, expected to grow to a $120bn industry by the end of this year.

“Finding and recruiting the cyber security experts we need to take on this threat takes imagination. There is no single, conventional career path so we need a new approach to identify and recruit the right people.”

Last week, Barclays took part in the $2.4m seed financing of non-credit risk ratings agency Sigma Ratings. The company uses an algorithm, deep domain expertise and ‘innovative’ technology to rate a company’s vulnerability to financial crime and governance risk.
