Polish universal bank Alior Bank is leveraging Onfido’s technology to streamline its digital identity verification, through a new deal.
Those looking to open a personal account with Alior will now be able to do its remotely through the Alior banking app. By integrating Onfido’s AI technology, customers will be able to prove their identity with a photo of their government-issued ID and a short video selfie. Onfido will then check to see if the ID is legitimate and whether video matches it.
Alior’s decision for this move was heavily influenced by Covid-19, it said.
Onfido CEO and co-founder Husayn Kassai said, “In today’s digital age, users increasingly appreciate a simple digital experience so they can prove their real identity while knowing it is secure and upholds privacy.
“We bring trust to digital interactions worldwide, and we’re very happy to be supporting Alior Bank’s digital initiatives. We pride ourselves on delivering access to online services that both detects and prevents fraudulent attempts while enabling the business to scale and meet regulations.”
This partnership is also part of Alior’s goal of boosting customer convenience. The company is looking to enable customers to by public transport and cinema tickets through its mobile app in the near future.
Alior Bank CEO Iwona Duda said, “Customers’ convenience as well as security and accessibility of new solutions are our highest priorities. Through the digitalisation of our day-to-day interactions with our accounts holders, we can offer many more services via their smartphones and build deeper customer relationships. The capacity to open an account using only your mobile is a first step towards building a virtual ecosystem of products from various categories, not only finance.”
Earlier in the year, Onfido closed a $100m funding round to support its expansion and technology development.
