You won’t believe how this guy allegedly stole credit card details from 1,300 customers

In the days where big multi-million hack attacks have become a common feature in the news, this accused thief apparently decided to go old school.

A mall clerk in in Koto City, Japan has been accused of stealing the information about 1,300 customers’ credit cards by memorizing them. The local police alleges that the man memorized the 16-digit credit card number, security card and expiry date of the cards when they made a purchase, according to a CNET report citing local news.

The police apparently got on his trail after he allegedly used the information to buy two bags worth roughly $2,500 each.

The method is very different from the one Brazilian criminals used to steal more than $1.65m from the German bank Oldenburgische Landesbank (OLB). Those digitally savvy criminals instead used technology to clone credit cards and then they cashed out. Those thefts happened at the end of August.
