Truffle Security, which helps protect sensitive data, has collected $14m in its Series A funding round.
The investment was led by a16z, a California-based venture capital firm. Commitments also came from Expa, Lytical, Harpoon, HNVR, Essence, Abstract and a series of unnamed angel investors.
Founded in 2021 by Dustin Decker, Julian Dunning and Dylan Ayrey, Truffle Security was built to prevent credential leakage.
The idea for Truffle Security originally came in 2017 whilst Ayrey was unemployed and sat on a sofa with Decker, according to a blog post from Ayrey. He designed an open-sourced tool called TruffleHog, which was able to find API keys in GIT source code, which would help him easily submit bug bounties.
At the start of 2021, the trip decided to leave their jobs and focus on developing Truffle Security and the TruffleHog platform.
TruffleHog runs in the background of a company’s environment and scans it for secrets, such as private keys and credentials, helping the team to protect data before breaches.
The company has a couple of upcoming products planned for launch in the coming months.
