Thoma Bravo collects $22.8bn in new raise for three funds

Private-equity firm Thoma Bravo has raised $22.8bn to three tech-focused funds, making it one of the largest fundraising hauls ever, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Chicago-based firm has previously bought cloud-enabled cybersecurity company Sophos in a deal worth around $3.8bn and completed earlier this year. Thoma Bravo also carved out app security testing business Veracode from Broadcom in a $950m buyout in 2018.

The new raise took place over the past nine months and was “almost completely virtual,” according to the firm.

The money will be divided across the Thoma Bravo Flagship Fund XIV, the Thoma Bravo Discover Fund III, and the Thoma Bravo Discover Fund III, which will receive $17.8bn, $3.9bn and $1.1bn respectively.
