Cybersecurity giant Symantec has acquired Luminate Security to boost its integrated cyber defence for the cloud.
Luminate’s Secure Access Cloud technology will be able to extend Symantec’s Cyber Defense platform to ensure security for users when accessing workloads and applications from wherever the infrastructure or information is located.
Through a new integrated platform, Symantec will offer unified cloud and on-premise security across endpoints, networks, email and cloud, protecting against from all threats while lowering costs and complexity.
Luminate’s Secure Access Cloud enables security teams to establish zero trust application access architecture without traditional VPN appliances. This enables users to connect to corporate applications from anywhere in the world in a secure manner while ensuring other areas of the network which they lack authority to access are cloaked and protected.
Symantec EVP and GM Enterprise Products Art Gilliland said, “As corporate applications continue to move to the cloud, IT organizations need innovative approaches to address the complexity and security challenges of providing users anywhere, anytime access.
“Luminate Security’s agentless, cloud-delivered service solves these problems and adds a powerful Software Defined Perimeter capability to our Integrated Cyber Defense Platform.”
Late last year, Symantec made a couple of other cybersecurity acquisitions. The company bought Javelin Networks, a software developer to protect enterprises from active directory-based attacks for an undisclosed amount. By completing this deal, Symantec aims to improve its endpoint protection services.
Another deal closed around the same time was for mobile application security analysis provider Appthority. The startup utilises tools to analyse mobile apps for malicious capabilities or unsafe and unwanted behaviours.
