Sonrai Security inks $50m Series C to scale cloud security for global firms

New York-based cloud security company Sonrai Security has raked in $50m from a Series C funding round led by ISTARI.

Also participating in the Series C were Polaris Partners, Menlo Ventures, TenEleven Ventures and the New Brunswick Innovation Fund.

Following this recent round, Sonrai has raised a total of $88m since its inception. The company previously netted $20m in its Series B back in 2020 and $18m in its Series A two years ago.

Founded in 2017, Sonrai delivers enterprise cloud security for companies running on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. The company – powered by a cloud identity graph – combines data security, cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM) and cloud security posture management (CSPM) in one platform.

Sonrai’s cloud security platform extends CSPM with identity and data security for public clouds in order to automatically eliminate complexity and risk. In addition, Sonrai Dig addresses CIEM, configuration management and data classification. This Sonrai claims, allows companies to enforce compliance, achieve and maintain least privilege, lockdown critical data and enforce separation of duties. To date, Sonrai has locations in New York and New Brunswick.

According to Sonrai, it intends to use its new funding to speed up research and development and expand sales and marketing worldwide for the company’s cloud security platform.

Sonrai CEO and co-founder Brendan Hannigan said, “Securing identities and data is central to Sonrai Security’s approach for protecting enterprise AWS, Azure and GCP cloud infrastructures. Large enterprises have embraced this approach, and our latest funding round supports our global expansion and ensures that our platform will continue to provide the most advanced multicloud security capabilities available in the market. ISTARI’s unique value proposition of capital, global client relationships and thought leadership will be a catalyst for our business.”

ISTARI chief portfolio officer Amit Jasuja – who will join the Sonrai board – added, “We are building our portfolio based around our clients’ most pressing cybersecurity needs. Cloud security is one of their key focus areas and Sonrai’s best of breed platform is the perfect complement to our portfolio. We aim to be an accelerator for Sonrai’s growth journey, whilst helping our clients further uncover and reduce risks.”
