JP Morgan buys stake in Mosaic Smart Data

JP Morgan has added Mosaic Smart Data to its strategic investments portfolio by taking a minority stake in the company.

The firm, which is also a client of Mosaic, said the investment will be used by the company to continue expanding the range of asset classes its platform supports.

Matthew Hodgson, founder and CEO of Mosaic Smart Data said: “JP Morgan’s investment is testament that our technology has been built specifically for the challenges of capital markets.  We look forward to using the investment to further empower our clients to gain insights across asset classes.”

Based in London, Mosaic claims its platform provides sophisticated visualization of market activity in real-time. It aim is to empower financial market professionals with usable, data-driven tools to ask the questions they need answered and to receive those results in a language they can understand.

Financial institutions are facing a challenging period in FICC markets, largely as a result of the constraints of new regulatory initiatives. As the volume of data linked to trading activity and interactions with clients increases, the challenge to harness and analyse that data in real time becomes ever more critical according to Mosaic.

It claims its technology addresses the challenges facing institutions trading in today’s FICC markets, including change management, productivity, efficiency, restructuring and the growing automation of trading processes.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is is intended to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union, comes into force in May 2018. It will directly affect every UK and European company and those businesses with EU citizens and carries heavy fines (up to 4% of a company’s global revenue). The regulation means that banks and other data controllers will have to fundamentally rethink the ways in which they collect and handle customer data.
