Inky Technology, an email security company based in Rockville, Maryland, has raised $5.6m in fresh funding.
The Series A was led by ClearSky Security, with participation from BlackStone and Gula Tech Adventures. As part of the funding, ClearSky Security managing director Peter Kuper has joined Inky’s board of directors.
Led by CEO Dave Baggett, Inky provides an email protection gateway that uses AI, machine learning and computer vision algorithms to block deep sea phishing attacks.
Inky Phish Fence automatically scans every email, both internal and external, to identify and flag phishing emails. It claims to differ from every other system on the market by using proprietary machine learning and computer vision algorithms to “see” each email much as the recipient would. Unlike a human recipient, however, Inky Phish Fence can tell when an email is a forgery, and can either quarantine the mail or deliver it with disabled links and a user-friendly warning.
The solution adds warning banners to unusual or suspicious emails, giving users specific guidance on potentially problematic messages. It also enables users to report phishing emails via a “Report This Email” link added to each email.
“Phishing is one of the biggest cybersecurity concerns, so we’d been looking for over a year for a promising startup in this space. We found Inky and were immediately impressed,” says Kuper.
“Our network of CISOs and other trusted advisors confirmed Inky as a disruptive new approach to phishing prevention. We’re excited to partner with Inky to usher in the next generation of phishing protection,” said ClearSky partner Peter Kuper.
Inky Phish Fence works on any endpoint via any mail client, with no additional client software required. It integrates directly into Microsoft Office 365, and provides IT/Security teams a reporting and measurement dashboard to assess blocked threats and reported phishing emails.
