AXA Strategic Ventures, the global venture capital firm, is rebranding and will be known as AXA Venture Partners.
The firm recently expanded into Asia and launched a $175m fund of funds strategy, which recently backed three top-tier venture capital funds.
AXA Venture Partners, a $450m venture capital firm backed by AXA, will invest in a wide range of sectors, including: FinTech and Insurtech, enterprise SaaS, digital health and consumer technologies. Within these sectors, its latest investments have been in the AI and Cybersecurity space.
Last year, SecurityScorecard, the leader in security ratings, raised $27.5m in Series C funding, with AXA joining Nokia Growth, Moody’s Corporation, Sequoia Capital, Google Ventures (GV), Boldstart Ventures, Two Sigma Ventures, Evolution Equity Partners and Intel Capital in the round. The SecurityScorecard platform provides CISOs, security practitioners, risk management professionals, and boards of directors with a comprehensive outside-in view of the security posture of their entire ecosystem, including their own IT infrastructure as well as their third and fourth-party vendors.
Earlier in the year, AXA made a $11m investment in Neura, which uses machine learning to create a digital identity map of individuals. It claims to enriche apps and devices with insights about users’ past and present actions, as well as calculated predictions about what they will do next.
“This rebrand marks an important milestone in our development. We have seen growth far exceeding our initial expectations when we launched only two years ago,” said commented Francois Robinet, managing partner, AXA Venture Partners. “We have opened new offices, launched a second strategy in fund of funds, expanded the team and partnered with 32 exciting and innovative businesses. Although we are still a young and dynamic firm we feel the new identity better reflects who we are as a company today and our future ambitions. The new brand draws on our partnership ethos, our investment scope, and our ambitions for AXA Venture Partners.”
Five offices in San Francisco, New York, London, Paris and Hong Kong will take up the new brand identity. Its investments range from seed investment to growth equity, covering ticket sizes from $300,000 to $20m.
In the Cybersecurity space, its previous investments include Contrast Security, which enables software applications to protect themselves against cyberattacks, heralding the new era of self-protecting software.
Axa’s previous FinTech investments include mobile on-demand insurance platform Verifly, Fundshop, an online platform dedicated to helping its users build and manage their savings investment portfolio easily, and GoldBean, an online platform where wannabee-investors can start their personalized portfolio and manage their investments.
