The ranking by cities shows London as the leading location for RegTech investments In Europe with 109 deals completed since 2014. Despite the uncertainty caused by Brexit at the end of Q2 2016, the UK and London have maintained their leadership positions in the European country and city rankings, with 124 deals completed in the UK since 2014.
Just over 48% of the total RegTech deals in Europe since 2014 have been completed in London, with more transactions completed in London and Dublin than all other European cities combined.
However, the recent spread of investments over a range of countries and cities illustrates that RegTech innovation is no longer restricted to cities that are home to major financial services centres.
RegTech deals are continuing to spread throughout Europe, with nine deals completed in Zurich and Stockholm, and six deals in Luxembourg since 2014. Zurich-based Futurae, a provider of security and smart authentication software, raised a $2m venture round from AXA Venture Partners and Divestures in Q3 2018. Corporate governance platform Governance.com raised $2.3m of Series A funding from Banque Internationale à Luxembourg, again in Q3 2018.
