Sao Paulo-based medical diagnostics company Grupo Fleury has revealed it has suffered a ransomware attack that has led to it taking its systems offline.
According to Bleeping Computer, multiple cybersecurity sources told the publication that Grupo Fleury suffered an attack from ransomware group REvil, however, Fleury has not yet confirmed this.
The publication also claimed the REvil ransomware group is demanding $5m ransom to receive a decryptor and not leak allegedly stolen files. If data has been stolen by REvil, this could be of significant concern for Fleury as it could contain huge amounts of personal and medical patient data.
REvil also recently hacked into the system of Sol Oriens – a US nuclear weapons contractor – and was also found to be responsible for the cyberattack of food processing giant JBS Foods.
Grupo Fleury is the biggest medical diagnostics business in Brazil and has over 200 service centers and more than 10,000 employees and performs around 75 million clinical exams every year.
Bleeping Computer noted that the Fleury website began displaying an alert warning yesterday that the company has suffered an attack and that its system could no longer be accessed. This has disrupted business operations and left patients unable to schedule lab tests and other exams online.
Earlier this year, Ireland’s healthcare service – the Irish Health Service Executive – was temporarily forced to shut down its computer systems as a precaution following a significant ransomware attack.
