The top 10 most well-funded RegTech companies raised nearly $5.2bn globally between 2014 and Q1 2019, averaging $518.6m of total funding per company. The vast amount of capital raised by these companies demonstrates the size of the opportunity investors see in the sector.
The locations of the companies in this list underlines the dominance of the US, where eight of the top 10 companies are based, with over $2.3bn raised by these US RegTech companies since 2014.
Beijing-based facial recognition company SenseTime, raised over $1.2bn in Q2 2018, across two Series C rounds, at a $4.5bn valuation, making it the most well-funded RegTech company to date having raised over $2.6bn.
Palo Alto-based Rubrik, provides GDPR-complaint cloud data management solutions that protect, manage, and monitor data across all environments. Rubrik is the most well-funded RegTech in North America having raised $553m from investors since 2014.The company most raised a $261m Series E round in January 2019, from Bain Capital Ventures and previous investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greylock Partners, Khosla Ventures and IVP, valuing the company at $3.3bn.
Darktrace is a Cambridge UK-based cybersecurity company that leverages AI for threat detection in its Enterprise Immune System and is the most well-fund RegTech company in Europe, with $230.5m raised. Darktrace counts global financial institutions such as AIG, AEGON, Sony Life Insurance and Ipreo as clients and was most recently valued at more than $1.6bn.
