Mercury Insurance has released home cyber protection coverage for homeowners and renters in California.
The new protection will give policyholders cyber insurance which covers payments and security solutions for computer and home system attacks, cyber extortion, online fraud, and breach of personal information involving smartphones, computers, and connected home devices.
Cover costs from as little as $2.50 each month and offers payments to recover data and restore systems which have been lost or damaged following a cyberattack, such as ransomware attacks from malware or unauthorized use of devices. It also offers professional assistance by cyber extortion experts when responding to ransom demands.
The policy also offers protection from online fraud which results in direct financial loss to those covered.
When a policyholder identifies a cyber-attack, they will have 60 days to report the claim to get full coverage from losses. Coverage can be added mid-term and limit options of $25,000 and $50,000 per year are available.
Mercury director of product management Jane Li said, “Homeowners and renters have enjoyed the added convenience provided by computers, tablets and smartphones, but these devices create new opportunities for cyber criminals to infiltrate your home.
“Mercury is here to protect its customers from cyber threats, and the coverage can be added to an existing homeowners or renters insurance policy and protects families when using such devices both at and away from home.”
Its cyber insurance is now available in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Texas and Virginia.
