Hengbao & IDEX to launch biometric smart cards in Asia

Hengbao, a card company based in China, has partnered with IDEX Biometrics to introduce biometric smart cards in South East Asia.

IDEX, a provider of advanced fingerprint identification and authentication solutions, and Hengbao will introduce contact based biometric smart cards across the Asian market, with future plans to trial dual-interface cards.

Hengbao supports cards for multiple payment network specifications, including Mastercard, China Union Pay, VISA, and JCB.

Stan Swearingen, CEO of IDEX Biometrics said: “This is one of the most significant technologies to enter the smart card market in the past 10 years and will make the common payment card exciting again. The increasing popularity of card payments in Asia, in conjunction with the growing preference towards biometrics, has created the perfect storm for this partnership with Hengbao, a very influential player in the Asian market.”

Headquartered in Fornebu, Norway, IDEX offers ‘simple, secure and personal’ authentication for all. It helps people make payments, prove their identity, gain access to information, unlock devices or gain admittance to buildings with the touch of a finger.
The company has a wide range of fingerprint sensor products for applications in the card, mobile and IoT markets. It offers a complete touch sensor portfolio consisting of the most ‘accepted capacitive sensing techniques in circulation today’, including a unique off-chip sensing and the conventional capacitive silicon sensing.

Both product categories within the IDEX portfolio of touch sensors are complete system solutions including image delivery hardware, tightly coupled software control and matching algorithm, trusted execution environment and FIDO compliant reference designs.
