DefectDojo secures $7m to propel application security innovations

DefectDojo, a leader in application security solutions, has recently successfully secured $7m in funding.

The investment, led by Iolar Ventures and Aspenwood Ventures, aims to catalyze the company’s innovative approach to security risk management.

DefectDojo has emerged as a cornerstone in the application security and vulnerability management landscape, boasting over 38 million downloads. The platform integrates with more than 180 security tools, serving a diverse user base that includes Fortune 10 companies, international banks, government agencies, startups, and solo consultants.

The primary objective of this funding is to accelerate DefectDojo’s product development and market expansion. As the only open-source solution in the Application Security Posture Management (ASPM) space, DefectDojo provides a comprehensive platform that enhances organizational security postures by aggregating data from various security tools, automating workflows, and offering actionable insights for effective vulnerability management.

In addition to scaling its DevSecOps platform, DefectDojo has introduced several enhancements to its Pro Edition. These upgrades include improved automation capabilities, advanced analytics tools for deeper insights into vulnerabilities, and enriched data context through partnerships with FIRST’s Exploit Prediction Scoring System.

DefectDojo CEO, Greg Anderson, commented on the funding, “This investment validates our commitment to transforming how organizations approach AppSec and Security at large. We first began our open source community over ten years ago to reduce the repetitive, mundane tasks that take away from security professionals’ ability to operate strategically and meet the needs of a rapidly evolving threat landscape. As we continue to develop our DevSecOps platform, security will be able to scale far beyond what is possible today to stay one step ahead of tomorrow’s bad actors.”

This funding round follows DefectDojo’s history of fostering an open-source community, dedicated to advancing security practices and remaining at the forefront of application security innovation.

Lars Leckie, Managing Director of Aspenwood Ventures, also praised DefectDojo’s impact, stating, “DefectDojo’s expertise and the passionate community it has developed are fundamentally changing the way security is handled within organizations. We’ve seen many try to achieve this, but DefectDojo is the only company making this a reality and earning the trust of enterprises of all sizes.

“DefectDojo has a unique blend of open source innovation and enterprise-grade capabilities that not only bring the entire security toolset together, but enable seamless collaboration between development, security and leadership teams. We’re excited to support their vision of unlocking DevSecOps scalability for all.”
