Akamai Technologies, a developer of secure digital solutions, has acquired customer identity access management platform Janrain.
Janrain helps businesses to strengthen digital trust by removing logins and registration workloads, and Akamai hopes integration of its solution will provide it with world class security, regulatory compliance and massive scale to online engagements.
Currently, Akamai secures its customers’ websites, apps and APIs from DDoS attacks, application vulnerabilities, bots and other threats. This acquisition will help to further protect its clients, by helping them to develop trust with consumers, through a secures environment for collecting and storing sensitive data. In addition to managing privacy controls and combating identity fraud.
There will also be benefits for Janrain’s customers, with this initially being bot management and threat intelligence. The bot manager will mitigate risks around credential abuse by detecting and managing bot activity at login and registration.
Akamai’s threat intelligence helps customers to make smart decisions on which users should have access to registration and login pages, based on past behaviours.
Alongside this, the combined technology will support adaptive authentication solutions to protect from malicious activity.

Janrain’s Identity Cloud, working together with Akamai’s Intelligent Edge Platform, will provide an added layer of security to allow our customers to know more about their end users and potentially drive additional revenues from that deepened relationship.”
