CyberArk has announced its agreement to acquire Venafi, a machine identity management firm, from Thoma Bravo for approximately $1.54bn.
This strategic move aims to integrate Venafi’s machine identity management capabilities with CyberArk’s identity security expertise, establishing a unified platform for end-to-end machine identity security at enterprise scale.
CyberArk is an identity security company renowned for its leading identity security capabilities. It focuses on securing every identity, human and machine, with the appropriate level of privilege controls. With this acquisition, CyberArk aims to expand its footprint in machine identity security.
Venafi is a prominent player in machine identity management, offering solutions for certificate lifecycle management, private Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), IoT identity management, and cryptographic code signing. Its expertise lies in securing machine identities in modern cloud environments, making it a valuable addition to CyberArk’s portfolio.
Thoma Bravo is a private equity firm known for its investments in software and technology companies. It played a significant role in Venafi’s growth and success during its ownership period.
CyberArk intends to acquire Venafi for approximately $1.54 billion, comprising cash and CyberArk shares. The transaction has received approval from the Boards of Directors of both CyberArk and Venafi, marking a significant step forward in enhancing machine identity security.
The exponential growth of machine identities, fueled by digital transformation and ongoing cloud migration, has heightened the need for advanced machine identity management solutions. By combining Venafi’s capabilities with CyberArk’s expertise, the unified platform will offer organisations enhanced security measures and faster risk mitigation in modern cloud environments.
“By combining forces with Venafi, we are expanding our abilities to secure machine identities in a cloud-first, GenAI, post-quantum world. Our integrated technologies, capabilities and expertise will address the needs of global enterprises and empower Chief Information Security Officers to defend against increasingly sophisticated attacks that leverage human and machine identities as part of the attack chain,” said Matt Cohen, Chief Executive Officer of CyberArk.
