Despite repeated warnings over the years to not reuse passwords, people still fail to follow the guidelines.
In a new report, Microsoft found over 44 million passwords that were being repeated across its Azure AD and Microsoft Service accounts.
The report was based on credentials that had been exposed through various breaches and that were drawn from sources like law enforcement and public databases.
Those passwords were then checked against the Microsoft’s databases to see if the compromised ones were being repeated.
When Microsoft found matches of compromised passwords, it forced a reset.
The news comes after OneLogin, the identity and access management company, revealed last week that 39% of Irish adults have not changed their password within the past year.
The dangers of bad passwords were recently outlined by Compliance Compendium’s chief business development officer Gareth Gadd, who explained that using the same or passwords that are easy to guess could lead up to companies being exposed to several cybersecurity risks.
