3Box closes $2.5m seed funding round led by Placeholder

3Box, a digital identity and data management company, has closed a $2.5m seed funding round.

Placeholder Ventures led the investment, with contributions also coming from Venrock, Northzone and CoinFund.

Following the close of the round, 3Box is looking to further decentralise its network to make it even easier for developers to build with the platform. Additionally, it will look to build out its developer portal with a managed infrastructure service for projects.

To support its growth plans, the company will also look to expand its core teams in New York and Berlin.

3Box is a decentralised cloud which lets crypto businesses safely store their information. The company offers three APIs: Profiles, Messaging and Storage.

Clients can leverage the Profiles API to add social user profiles and basic reputations to their Ethereum applications. The profile data is stored on a decentralised database and is controlled by the user to ensure information is only shared where they want it to.

As part of the deal, Placeholder Ventures co-founder Brad Burnham has joined the 3Box board of directors.
