Onfido reportedly in talks with UK government to provide immunity passport to ease the economic fallout of COVID-19

Governments around the world are clamouring for solutions to help them save the economy from the fallout of the coronavirus. RegTech Onfido is reportedly one of the tech firms the UK government is talking to for help.

One of the key factors that could help cushion the financial blow is to somehow resume the movement of people, which is why the minsters are looking into creating digital certificates, so-called health or immunity passports, enabling workers to prove that they have had the virus.

Onfido, which specialises in facial biometrics and digital identity verification, is understood by the Guardian to be having conversations with the government to to create such a solution and how it could potentially be rolled out across the country.

It should be mentioned that the government is seemingly steering away from calling these health certificate immunity passports as it is unclear whether or not people can catch the virus again after having already been infected once.

The news comes after Onfido scored $100m in mid-April in a round to bolster its international expansion efforts.
