RegTech hot spots have been emerging in the Nordics and other parts of Europe since 2014

There have been 226 RegTech deals in Europe since 2014, with 55.2% of these deals involving UK RegTech companies. The proportion of deals involving UK-based RegTech companies grew from half of all deals in 2014 to 64.1% in 2015 when 25 transactions were closed in the country.

Although the number of deals in Europe has been growing, the UK has gradually been ceding ground to other countries in the region since 2015. The share of deals involving RegTech companies from other parts of Europe has nearly doubled from 21.8% in 2014 to 39.3% in 2018.

The RegTech landscape has seen increased deal activity from Nordic countries such as Sweden and Denmark, with strong efforts by the Danish government and Copenhagen FinTech (the country’s industry association) to boost the country’s FinTech ecosystem.
