Square loses general counsel Dana Wagner

Square’s general counsel Dana Wagner is stepping down from his role at the end of September after five years at the payments firm. The news comes via a regulatory filing.

As the company’s main lawyer Wagner took Square through its IPO in November 2015.

Wagner joined the payments company in 2011 having formerly worked as a Counsel and legal director at Google.

He does not have another job lined up but is reportedly taking time off.

Sydney Schaub and Sivan Whiteley, the company’s current associate general counsels, will become co-general counsels after Wagner’s departure.

He is the first top-tier exec to leave Square since its IPO.

The move follows a strong second quarter for the company that saw it beat Wall Street’s expectations to generate $439m in revenue, up 41% year on year.
