Partner departs bitcoin-focused VC firm Pantera Capital

Steven Waterhouse is leaving his role as partner and CTO at bitcoin and blockchain-dedicated VC firm Pantera Capital.

No reason is being reported for his departure other than that he “wasn’t a fit” for the VC firm and its current ambitions.

Waterhouse joined the firm as one of its earliest partners when it was founded in 2013, leaving Fortess Investment Group to do so.

The news of Waterhouse’s departure coincides with the closure of the firms $10.43m fund, Pantera Venture Fund II, which it raised in October 2014.

The firm is a prominent player in bitcoin and blockchain investing having backed rounds such as, 21 inc’s $116m haul last March alongside Andreessen Horowitz and Circle’s $50m Series C in September.

Waterhouse himself is a board member of Bitstamp and now-shuttered social tipping startup ChangeTip.
