FCA warns about a fake Financial Services Register site

If you’ve stumbled across the website thefca.net, then be warned as it is not the home of the UK’s to financial markets watchdog.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned that the site in question is a fake site.

“We are aware that there has been an attempt to reproduce our Financial Services Register on a non-FCA website,” the regulator said in a statement.

The FCA has successfully managed to have the site taken down. The regulator has also “alerted members of the public through our website and social media channels.”

This is the second fake site the FCA has warned about in as many months. The regulator warned of a similar site in June.

These fake sites follows a pattern of increased cyber crime activities since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Bodies like the FBI and the European Central Bank have all warned that the global health crisis has emboldened bad actors to launch more and more scams.
