Cloud-based firewall startup Alcide secures $7m Series A

Microservices firewall provider for application network security Alcide has secured $7m in its Series A round of financing.

CE Ventures made a commitment to the round, its first into Alcide. Previous backers, Intel Capital and Elron, also invested through the Series A. As part of the funding round, CE Ventures partner Ben Weiss will join the Alcide board of directors.

Alcide is a cloud-native solution which provides protection for apps, architecture and infrastructure on the cloud. Its solution helps DevOps and security teams to manage application and networking security via intelligent automation of security policies.

By implementing a machine learning-powered firewall, the company can help to manage security automatically and support the definitions, application and enforcement of embedded security policies across clouds.

With this line of funding, the company will look to bolster its go-to-market strategy and make a ’significant’ expansion across the US and EMEA markets.

Intel Capital vice president Anthony Lin said, “As cloud adoption continues to grow rapidly, businesses are faced with new security blind spots inherent in distributed environments.

“Alcide’s unified security solution helps to address these risks by enabling businesses to uniformly secure and control their environments – regardless of their cloud provider, workload or third-party services.”

This investment has come just months after Alcide made its solution made it available to all, and being picked as a Gartner Cool Vendor.

Late last year, Alcide pulled in an initial seed round of $5.2m.
