Citi releases new biometric login solution for mobile app

Citi Treasury and Trade Solutions has released new fingerprint and facial recognition tools to its desktop and mobile platforms.

The mobile cash and trade management service CitiDirect BE will now enable users to login via their fingerprints or face scans through the smartphone app.

This biometric authentication solution has been created from a number of partnerships and will replace the existing token-based system. Currently, clients use tokens to generate passwords which gives access.

CitiDirect BE is available in 95 countries, and in 135 currencies. The platform offers institutional clients with a selection of global cash, trade, liquidity and investment services. The platform is part of the Citi Treasury and Trade Solutions banking product suite which offers a range of digital financial services.

A pilot test is currently under way in certain markets for this biometric authentication login system.

Citi Treasury and Trade Solutions global head of channel and enterprise services Tapodyuti Bose said, “We continue to deliver digital solutions using the latest technology to provide value for our clients, as they digitize their own processes.

“By leveraging existing built-in biometrics authentication capabilities on mobile devices, clients can now access CitiDirect BE quicker, further enhancing the user experience.”

The Citi Treasury and Trade Solutions division is currently focused on improving its digital solutions and partnerships with FinTechs.

Earlier in the month, Citi picked up a minority strategic stake in UK-based data privacy startup Privitar. The company delivers data-privacy software to help companies protect their data and to conduct ethical data analysis.
