Web application hack attacks jumped by 800% in the first six months of 2020

New research reveals that web application attacks increased by 800% between January and June in 2020, compared to the same period in 2019.

Cybersecurity company CDNetworks’ new The State of the Web Security for H1 2020 report said that the global pandemic caused hackers to move attacks from less visited sites such as those related to hospitality, transportation, and other travel-related businesses and redirect their attention to sites that are profiting under Covid-19 such as media, public services, and education.

The report also found that DDoS attack incidents saw a 147.63% year-on-year growth. On average, 660 bot attack incidents were blocked every second, a number that is nearly doubled from last year.

Over 4.2 billion web application attacks were blocked in H1, a figure that is 8 times higher than the same period in 2019.
