Mastercard to open its first European cybersecurity centre

Mastercard is building its first European Cyber Resilience Centre, which will help to drive collaboration in the public and private sectors.

The new cyber and security centre will also work with regulatory bodies to support enterprise resilience in the region.

This new department will be based in the card company’s European headquarters in Belgium and is the first of its type outside North America. The new centre will act as the single cybersecurity hub for Europe.

Mastercard will work with national cyber intelligence centres, industry groups, law enforcement agencies and central banks across Europe including ECRB, ECCFI, Europol, FS-ISAC, INTERPOL, NBB.

With the new office, the company hope to reduce lines of communication within internal teams, helping to improve response times during global events, natural disasters, service and security incidents and ensure compliance with privacy laws globally.

The centre will enable Mastercard will work closely with law enforcement agencies and customers in the region to improve information sharing.

Mastercard Europe president Javier Perez said, “The security and privacy of our customers’ data is paramount. Fraudsters and hackers know no borders or nationalities, so threats can strike from every corner of the world. Only a joint effort that involves all parties will be able to place Europe on the frontline of enterprise resilience.

“This new centre will synchronize our global resources and partners to constantly seek and adopt the best practices for us and our customer network.”
