Fingerprint Cards has shipped over 1 billion in fingerprint sensors

Fingerprint Cards has revealed it has now shipped one billion fingerprint sensors around the world, highlighting the increased market interest on biometrics.

Sweden-based Fingerprint Cards is a biometric technology developer which has built solutions for smartphones, payment cards, IoT devices and access controls. Its smartphone fingerprint technology is now used by 330 smartphone models around the world, it claims.

The RegTech also revealed a new optical ‘in-display’ fingerprint sensor for mobile, which will let consumers authenticate by touching the smartphone screen, not just a specific sensor on the device. Additionally, the company designs iris and facial recognition tools to boost verification options.

Fingerprints CEO Christian Fredrikson said, “This is a proud moment for us and the biometrics industry; proof of how far we’ve come in simplifying the lives of consumers every day, all over the world. But this is just the beginning.

“With huge investment into hardware, software and algorithms, we are continuing to drive new innovative solutions to market while increasing performance and enhancing the user experience. As applications continue to arise and new technologies emerge, we’re committed to realizing our vision of truly seamless ‘all-in’ security, where you are the key to everything.”

Earlier in the year, the company released a new enrolment demo for biometric payment cards, in a bid of accelerating customer onboarding. The service lets users quickly activate their biometric cards by simply scanning their finger on the card when they receive it – this can be done from the comfort of home.
