ClearSky raises $244.7m for first security fund

Venture and growth equity firm ClearSky has raised $244.7m for its first security fund.

The vehicle is closing in on its $300m target, having collected commitments 94 LPs, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Its is unclear if the filing represents a first or second close for the fund. A spokesperson for the firm was not immediately available to comment.

With offices in Florida, New York, Boston and San Francisco, ClearSky is led by Alexander Weiss, Jay Leek, James Huff, James Goldinger, and Peter Kuper.

The firm is currently investing through two funds: ClearSky Power & Technology and ClearSky Security, according to its website. ClearSky Security invests in companies that offer transformative solutions for cybersecurity, industrial security and critical infrastructure security.

ClearSky recently joined the likes of Comcast Ventures, BOLDstart Ventures, Information Venture Partners, Scale Venture Partners and the SAP.iO Fundm, in BigID’s $30m Series B round. Based in New York and Tel Aviv with a European office in London, BigID uses advanced machine learning and identity intelligence to help enterprises protect their customer and employee data at petabyte scale.

Its technology helps organisations replace inaccurate survey and spreadsheet-based privacy compliance with data-centric enterprise privacy management.

The round came just days after ClearSky joined Preempt’s $17.5m Series B round. Headquartered in San Francisco, with research and development located in Ramat Gan, Israel, Preempt claims to be the first company to deliver Identity and Access Threat Prevention, allowing enterprises to preempt threats in real time based on identity, behavior and risk.

Its portfolio also includes intelligence driven security provider IntSights, which was established to meet the growing need for rapid, accurate cyber intelligence and incident mitigation, and Inky, an email protection gateway that uses AI, machine learning and computer vision algorithms to block deep sea phishing attacks.
