Capsule8 lands $15m for attack detection platform

Capsule8, a zero-day attack detection platform, has closed its Series B round of funding on $15m.

The round, which brings total funding to $23.5M, was led by ClearSky Security, with participation from Bessemer Venture Partners, Rain Capital and other strategic investors. It will use the capital to scale its engineering organisation and to fuel sales efforts of the Capsule8 platform.

“We are incredibly impressed with the momentum of Capsule8 and the market traction they have already made since their product launch in April,” said ClearSky Security managing director Jay Leek. “We believe they are unique in how they are solving a very complicated issue, security in the production environment, and know they are set up for even more big wins in their next phase of growth.”

Founded in 2016 and led by John Viega, CEO, Capsule8 provides a real-time, zero-day attack detection platform capable of scaling to massive production deployments.

Headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, the company delivers continuous security across the entire production environment — containerised, virtualised and bare metal, enabling its customers to stop attacks in progress, and without human intervention. It claims to provide deep visibility into the system that makes it easy to investigate incidents in a way that is specifically designed to meet enterprise needs.

“Our early traction with some of the largest companies in the world, coupled with this latest round of funding, is incredible validation for our team and our technology,” said Viega. “The landscape of enterprise production environments continues to change and enterprise security has to change along with it. Our mission is to help lead that evolution, and we’re well on our way.”

ClearSky, a venture and growth equity firm, recently raised $244.7m for its first security fund. Its portfolio also includes Preempt, which claims to be the first company to deliver Identity and Access Threat Prevention, and BigID, which uses advanced machine learning and identity intelligence to help enterprises protect their customer and employee data at petabyte scale.
