Accused Capital One hacker could’ve stolen data from 30 other organizations

The woman accused of having compromised over 100 million Capital One accounts is now also suspected of having breached 30 other organizations too.

That is according to a new petition filed by the Justice Department, Ars Technica reports. While the filing does not name the other organizations, it stated that it involved other businesses and educational institutions.

The stated reason for why the government is keeping the names quiet is because the investigation is still ongoing.

The US attorney for Western Washington Brian Moran has also filed a motion to keep the woman imprisoned until a trial as she is seen as a flight risk and a threat to both herself and others. She is described as having repeatedly threatened to kill others, herself and “to commit suicide by cop.”

Capital One revealed it had been the victim of a hack attack at the end of July. At the time, it revealed that 106 million accounts had been breached in the US and in Canada.

Since then the case has turned into a bit of a media nightmare for Capital One, with the financial institution facing both lawsuits and criticism from Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren.
